The Valiant class battlecruiser was created under the modernisation programme Stellaris Astra Norcia in 3283.The need appeared after rough combats with the Threshold, which caused a lot of losses to Norcia.This Border wars lasted between 3298-3300.This period was knowen as ”The Struggle”.

The Norcian vowed never to let this defeat happen again.Because of this the Valiant has been born.

The shape of the ship was chosen to reduce building times and also as means to defence.The most noteworthy design feature was a series of internal cross bracings and honeycombs.This internal structure made the ship surprisingly resistant to battle damage.

There were cases with ships returned from battle from the shields depleted or destroyed,and damages to the outer hull between 27-46 % and the ship docked for repairs.

When Threshold met for the first time a Valiant in 3289 in combat it considered the ship ”useless space brick”,but they were wrong.When the Valiant opened fire with a salvo of 600 missiles,the Threshold CIWS were overwhelmed, and then 6 ships were destroyed by the ships 4 heavy kinetic rifles. 

The heavy autocannons opened disabling fire, so that the NSC to begin boarding operations.The purpose of Admiral Gracus fleet was to capture intact as many ships as possible as to humiliate the Threshold.

The ships were secured by Norcian Marines after 12 hours of heavy fightings.Also a detachment of legionares were there.

From the 21 Threshold  ships 8 were destroyed ,5 damaged beyond repair and 8 captured ships.This day got the nickname ”The Revenge”.

The ship will gain slowly but sure a huge reputation for it’s might.It was considered a great honor to serve on a ship of the class.

New life

The Senate considered the Valiant the main backbone for the heavy projection of firepower so the class was kept alive by constant upgrades.Starting from 3418 a series of attacks from pirates placed in jeopardy trading lines.So it was decided that a new Block variant will be developed,one of it’s upgrades was replacing one of the heavy axial guns with a particle beam cannon.

Other upgrades were going towards sensors,better firing rates for weapons,internal structures,propulsion.

Also another upgrade was to partly replace the anti aircraft guns with a new system,the M100 Ghepard quad gatling plasma based cannons.Also to increase the defense screen it was also installed the Carnifex T 45 M Falx CIWS system

The decision was made for 18 more ships to be produced and the existing ones to be upgraded to the latest standards.

Development History

The Valiant was the creation of Admiral Silvio Berloni.He considered that Norcia required a capital ship ready to unlish a huge firepower in order to dominate the battlefield.The ship also needed to deploy a airwing enough to protect the ship.

Another capability required was to deploy a ground component.

The best shape which was suited in taking a beating is a honeycomb.This shape was reinforced with heavy duty hydraulic rams.At first the design and the building phase for the CG 01 Valiant was tough.

As such this new class had the usual troubles of childhood to overcome and find the best solutions such that when deployed the ship will not endanger the crew and above all the mission.
