The UT-430 Vulcan is a medium-sized, twin-engine tiltrotor, utility transport with both vertical take-off and landing (VTOL), and short take-off and landing (STOL) capabilities. The UT-430 was developed and manufactured by TempIndustries, a collaborative company made up of Forest Aerospace, Rowland Aerospace and Eagle Industries. First entering service with the Black Eagles Security Services Combat Fleet in 3353, with its wider adoption with Black Eagle Security Services and the Templeman Defence Force in 3360.

Development


The UT-430 was developed in response to the BESS requirements for a battlefield helicopter which would also be capable of operating in naval environments. A design committee was established (Committee of Aerospace Transport) with the mandate to provide BESS with a series of aerospace transport for use by BESS rapid reaction forces. Some of the vehicles to come out of the Committee would be the UT-430 Vulcan, HT-27 Titian, AT-40 Viper and the A-12 Hawk.  

The UT-430 was developed and manufactured by TempIndustries, a collaborative company made up of Forest Aerospace, Orbital Transport and Eagle Industries. By 3352 with the vehicle being announced to the public, and the first production units arriving with forward units by early 3353.The UT-430 would have two main variants, the Tactical Transport (TT) for army use and the navalised starship transport (NST); each NST UT-430 typically has various alterations and customisations made to their own UT-430, such as different weapon load outs and cabin arrangements, to meet their own specific requirements. With the complete adoption of the UT-430 within BESS by 3355. Otherwise theses variants are similar and use the same components between themselves. With both variants able to be easily transport light vehicles such as the M45 both externally and internally.

The UT-430 would be upgraded in 3490 with improvements to the fire control software combined with an updated gravity barrier to deal with man portable missiles, which have been the cause of many vehicle deaths in the conflict.  The improvements will extend the service of the vehicles up to 2445 with a boost to crew protection.

The upgrades include a new and improved RJ/37B Fusion Turbines engine producing more power than the former engines. With increased armour protection in the form of diamond armour. The UT-430 would mount a Blacklight type II electronic intelligence collector and blocker blister, improved fire control with the Skywatch Model IV Battle Management Intelligence and Communication Software with improved thermal, day, low-light sights, lock detector system.

In 3414 with a general streamlining of BESS. The company started to either upgrade the existing UT-430 again to deal with threats that they are now responsible for or to go looking for a replacement. As such a committee (Committee of Next Generation Equipment) has been established to decide on this matter as of 3418 there has been no decision on the UT-430.

Design


Mobility

The UT-430 Vulcan is powered by two tilt-rotor Rowland Aerospace RJ/37B Fusion Turbines developing 61 MW of power. With the ability for the turbines to use a number of different fuels making the operating of the UT-430 easier with how long the supply line would be for BESS. Both variants of the UT-430 are fitted with a rear loading ramp and several carrying hard points for the transpiration of light vehicles and equipment.

Protection

The basic armour of the UT-430 Vulcan, consists of a aerospace variant of diamond ceramic amour which provides all-round protection against that of small arms and to deal with atmosphere. With an appliqué amour that can be added, with a rated protection against 20mm mass diver heavy calibre rounds and shaped charges. 

The UT-430 Vulcan is fitted with a nuclear, biological, chemical (NBC) filtration system accompanied with a chemical detector and radiation detector systems. The UT-430 was designed to produce a very low and very compact structure to minimize radar and IR-signatures. The UT-430 also uses heat-absorbing filters to provide protection against thermal imaging (TIS), image intensifiers and infrared cameras (IRC).

Armament

The UT-430 Vulcan has a central chain mounted weapon fitted with a 20mm mini-gun as standard, supported with two M9A3 door mounted machine guns and two wing mounted particle beam repeaters. In additional to a host of weapons that can be fitted on to the UT-430 allowing for rapid reconfiguration of the aircraft in the field to meet a varied number of mission requirements.

Sights

The UT-430 is equipped with a daytime optical Thermal Imaging System (TIS) an Image Intensification sight. The UT-430 is equipped with a Watchtower Model VIS Battle Management Intelligence and Communication to assist in navigation and with a Birdseye Model II Multi-spectrum Sensor Suite for target location tasks.

Variants


  • Tactical Transport; Army variant, fitted for close support of land forces with the replacement of the M29A2 mini-gun with a M12A2 40mm grenade launcher and extra amour fitted onto the bottom of the aircraft
  • Naval Starship Transport; Naval variant fitted for transport of marines, naval personal and cargo, with the removal of the door guns.
