The Eastward Rim, officially known as the Periphery of the Eastward Rim, is the designation for the astrological region starting from the northern borders of the Empire of Gaennaan, and ending at the southern borders of the Valais Imperium. Stretching roughly sixty lightyears from north to south, and fifty light years from east to west, the Eastward Rim is home to five distinct ethnic groups, and countless divergent ethnic and cultural groups. Characterized by its long history of bloody violence, the Eastward Rim has been the site of countless pitched battles between the powers that be in the region. From the short bloody campaigns of the Ossyrian Empire and the Ionian system states during its antiquity, and the expansionist crusades of the Covenant of Edom, to the great culling of Imperial Gaennaan as recent as the 3100's.

The Eastward Rim has been molded by the conflicts that have bloodied it, casting the denizens of its larger powers into the void fleeing conflict, persecution or worse.

It has long been considered a backwater by many of the worlds and nations coreward of Earth. Yet since ratification of the Treaty of Erylkis, and the the establishment of the Peripherian League in 3397, the Eastward Rim has steadily become one of the most powerful political entities in the Known Galaxy, capable of contending with larger super powers such as the Empyrean See.

Ionia

Ionia stretches from the shores of the Umbral Sea and the Ihalan Spiral in the west, to the uncharted space of the Periphery's far east, and is traditionally broken down into four distinct regions; the Ionian Caldera, Gulf of Aspisi, Halasus Expanse and Aegyan Gap.

Ghost Stars

A region of space dividing the Gulf of Aspisi and the Aegyan Gap, the Ghost Stars are said by Ionian spacefarers to be haunted by vile spirits. Any attempt to travers the region has been met with disaster, with more than one merchant trawler or colony ship vanishing without a trace.

Glimmering Hinterlands

Myth shrouded home of the Sharaadi Rahaabate, the Glimmering Hinterlands are vast dust banks that have collected around stars known only as the Light House and the Tombstone. Deep within these glimmering dust banks lies the tomb world of the Sharaadi people, the sacred world of Ashaan. Extra-solar traffic through the Glimmering Hinterlands is prohibited by both the Rahaabate, and their allies in the Peripherian League, ensuing the safety of their homeland. The wreckage of freelance prosperctors, priates and other unsavory groups can be found floating in the void amongst the dust clouds, left unpicked by the Sharaadi, their distress calls still piercing the void; a warning eternal to any who may think their home an easy picking and a quick paypacket.

Deep within the nexus of the Glimmering Hinterlands, giant Sharaadi shipyards build the vaunted Arks of their migrant fleets, and construct ships of war to defend them. Under the complete control of the Sharaadi's royalty, these shipyards are among the greatest in the Eastward Rim, their secrets dearly held and sequestered away within their dust shrouded heartland.

Every year, each of the Migrant Fleets from across the Galaxy gather in the shadow of Busaan for the Hisad festival; the great market place. It is then, and only then, that traffic into sacred Busaan and their glittering heartland is permitted, but closely watched; monitor sloops and military gunboats tracking any vessel veering off course.
