Dalarnas' End is the first colony established after the Dalaran people reached the ability to do interstellar travel again. Its high humidity and temperate climate are very beneficial for plant growth, resulting in almost 90 percent of agricultural products and medicinal herbs produced in the STC coming from here.

Etymology

Dalarnas [ˈdɑːˌlɑːɳas] was a historic province in Sweden. Its original meaning was "the valleys" and the high forest density in that region on old Earth made it a prime candidate as a namesake for the densely forested moon. As some of the original settlers came from the region on earth - as rediscovered from information gathered from the wreck of the colony ship Argonautica - the name was chosen in 3210.

History

Located in only the third system explored by a scientific vessel originating from Dustcrown - the STC's homeworld - Foleskula IIb, as it was formally called, was a lucky surprise for the Dalaran people. Discovered in a time where overpopulation again became an issue, the warm forested planet with nearly perfect habitability was the perfect solution for the fast growing population back on the homeworld. With the return of the vessel to Dustcrown after it was done cartographing the star system, several large colonization programs were initiated immediately when the news of the discovery were made public. From thereon out, the newly named colony of Dalarnas' End has provided an increasing percentage of the overall agricultural products sold and consumed in the Star Trading Conglomerate.

Habitability

While temperature, humidity, and atmospheric composition are mostly perfect in terms of habitability for humans, toxic molecules and hydrocarbons require extensive atmospheric cleaning. Due to its closeness to the gas giant the moon is orbiting, radiation levels are also too high to be safe without protection.

Human Geography

To make human presence possible on the planet, large-scale draining of the almost omnipresent swamps and wet woodlands is crucial. The concentration of toxic molecules like sulfur compounds, Ammonium, and methane near human settlements is considerably lower than in untouched regions. This has caused turmoil in most native ecosystems, as only the most adaptable species were able to thrive in the new environments. The two most commonly known examples are the native marble olive trees and the giant platypus, a four-legged vertebrate, carrying a striking resemblance to the creature back on earth, only much bigger and without strong aquatic adaptations. The creature is known to love feasting on Mana crops and a common sight on farms and fields.

To tackle the high radiation levels caused by the proximity of the gas giant, automated spacecraft are constantly orbiting the moon, scooping up ionized particles and filling up holes in the ozone layer of the upper atmosphere. These efforts are usually enough to keep radiation levels low enough to avoid long-term medical issues for residents.

National Significance

Producing and exporting roughly 90 percent of all agricultural goods in the STC, all other major settlements depend on intensive trade with the moon. As one of the founding planets of the nation, it also has great cultural value housing political power and influence within the nation.
