Foslara is the jewel of Ionia; a highly populated planet in the fourth orbit of its star Anaxia, located in the Eastward Rim, over a hundred light years from the light of Sol. Foslara possesses two natural satellites, the sibling moons of Aulara and Ayphus, as well as the artificial Nysan Necklace; a ring of defense platforms established for the defense of the Ionian capital. The planet has five major continents; Naxion, Athon, Megamea, Lapioch and Gelauros, with several archipelagos scattered throughout its three vast oceans; the Pandegean, Halynian, Asporion oceans.

The planet harbours eight mega-cities, as well as numerous smaller settlements strewn in between. Idithos is the planets largest city, and acts as the planetary capital, the capital for the League of Anaxia and the capital for the Ionian League. It stretches along the curve of the Ibean Bay on the southern most tip of the continent of Naxion. Arguably one of the Ionian League's most influential and important worlds, its cosmopolitan culture and location at the end of several major trade routes, it serves as a hub of Ionian culture, education, fine arts, technology and finance.

For much of its history, Foslara has been the cross roads of the Ionia Clusters two major powers; the Kingdom of Ossan and the Kingom of Ptelea, becoming a battle ground and vital lynch pin for both nations over the prevailing centuries.

Idrytic Period

Following the establishment of the Ionian League and the onset of the Idrytic Period, Foslara underwent a golden age of reparations and renewal. Under the governance of the Anaxian Senate, the planet began to flourish. For the first time in over a century starships were constructed and crewed for the sole purpose of propagating trade among the stars. It was during this period when Foslara was returning to the void that the Anaxian Gate was discovered, connecting Anaxia with the Gaennid Empire to the south, and in conjunction the rest of the Known Galaxy. The discovery of the Anaxian Gate in 3038 marked the beginning of the Ionian League’s rise to a hegemonic power.

With its increased economical output thanks to the near instantaneous travel of the Anaxian Gate, the Ionian Parliament further consolidated its power. Idithos, the planetary capital, expanded exponentially in the following years, the skies of Foslara became chocked with hundreds of vessels coming and going from the capital of the Ionian League. The rapid industrial development of Foslara had adverse effects on the planets environment. The planet’s major urban hubs became chocked with smog from factories, planet-side shipyards and other large scale industrial infrastructure. The increase in starship traffic and lack of any orbital platforms was becoming a hindrance not only to the Anaxian economy, but also the ecosystem of Foslara. In the late 31st Century the Anaxian Senate initiated the Ibean Tether Initiative, which saw the construction of multiple orbital tethers at Idithos, Apeos and Orania. Over the next century, a swath of Ionian states joined the Ionian League, establishing embassy’s within the city of Idithos.

In 3115 CE the Android population of Foslara, and greater Ionia revolted against their organic masters, backed by Android Rights fringe groups. The ensuing conflict saw devastation on a number of key Ionian worlds, Foslara included. Though devastation to the planetary capital was mitigated, other cities such as Apeos and Artopus became hot spots for armed conflict between Android insurgents and Anaxian military personnel. The war came to an end by 3118 CE, and the remaining androids and their supporters were pushed beyond the Aegelian Wall.

Though the war had ended with an Ionian victory, their nascent extra-solar infrastructure had suffered the brunt of the fighting. Economic collapse was inevitable. Foslara fared better than most worlds, with its connection to the Anaxian Gate, but the same could not be said for the Ionian League’s fringe worlds. Feeling ignored, Pagatharans launched a campaign of protest throughout the Ionian League, including Foslara. In what is remembered as the Ionian Civil War, Chancellor Selagus Aster was assassinated whilst en-transit to the embattled world of Phonecia. The death of Chancellor Aster prompted a response from the Anaxian League, and the Ionian Parliament. The Anaxian Common Military was deployed to Phonecia as part of the Ionian Military Coalition.

During the forty year long Reformation Period that followed the end of the Ionian Civil War, the light of Foslara shined only to the edge of the Anaxia System. Plagued with economic collapse and Gaennai and Ionain insurgencies on multiple fringe worlds, the Ionian League teetered on the brink of collapse, yet Foslara kept on spinning. The discovery of the Aegelian Breach in 3187 saw a revival for the Ionian League and the League of Anaxia. With swaths of new space open for colonization, the member states of the Ionian League scrambled, dispatching numerous colonial expeditions into this new uncharted frontier. The Expansionist Period was a second golden age for Foslara. Feats were made in culture and science, once more was the jewel of Anaxia the heart of Ionian culture and politics.

Igenomic Period

Main Article – Igenomic Period

Foslara remained relatively unscathed during the early Igenomic Period, remaining outside of the conflicts that plagued the failing Pagatharan League. Protests were held in 3331 CE by Pagatharan and Trillian expatriates urging the Ionian government to involve itself in the Trillian – Pagathara War.

During the Great Ionian War Forlsara became one of many battlegrounds during the Siege of Foslara in 3340 CE. The remnants of the Ionian Military Coalition fought a desperate defence of the jewel of Ionia both in orbit and on the ground. Significant damage was done to the worlds surface and orbital civil infrastructure. Following the Ionian victory at Foslara, the planet became highly militarized, acting as a nexus for the newly established Unified Ionian Military. In 3346, the Gardens of Unity and Equality played host to Chancellor Orestis Tharandon’s victory speech.

Foslara continued to grow throughout the Peace of Arsithos, rebuilding what had been destroyed and more. By 3379 CE it had returned to its pre-war state, and by 3399 CE it had become one of the richest worlds in the Eastward Rim, both economically and culturally.

Human Geography

Idithos

One of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements on Foslara, Idithos is a sprawling metropolis that spans the entire shore of the Ibean Bay, on the southern tip of the continent of Naxion. At the heart is the Hill of Argenus, a large mesa like rock formation that juts out of earth near the shores of the bay, atop which sits the heart of Idithos; the Upper Wards with its Pelyrgos District and the White Tower of Idithos, the most prominent and most architecturally breath-taking building in the city. Around the White Tower sit the gardens of Unity and Equality with their monuments to fallen heroes and by gone champions of the Ionian League. The Upper Wards house a number of high end financial and residential districts. Surrounding the Hill of Argenus are the Lower Wards, which make up the majority of the sprawling settlement. The Lower Wards comprise much of the modern city, which stretches out from the Argenian Hill all around. It is comprised of numerous different residential, industrial and financial districts, and houses numerous enclaves of Gaennai, Edomite and other nationalities. Off the coast of Idithos sits its primary orbital elevator terminal, which transports goods to and from the cities numerous port districts. Idithos has quickly become the largest city not only on Foslara, but in the Ionian League, since it was declared the seat of the League’s governing body.

Lindessa

Lindessa sits upon the western coast of the continent of Lapioch, and has acted as the continents principle harbour city for centuries. At an unknown time during Lindessa’s history, it was overrun by the fungal swamps of Foslara, however the Lindessans have managed to not only fight back the fungal growths, but to tame them – their city has become a magnificent blend of human architecture and nature. Lindessa is currently being investigated by the Ionian Ministry of Agriculture, to study a means of halting, or if possible adapting to the fungal swamps.

Apeos

The largest city on the continent of Athon, Apeos has grown into a cultural centre over the past four hundred years. Originally the headquarters of the Anaxian Common Navy, both terrestrial and in space, Apeos has become the location of a number of key Ionian naval facilities with connections to the Foslaran orbital drydocks and shipyards. The metropolis of Apeos sprawls across both banks of the Dyathon River, connected by a series of bridges. The most striking structure in Apeos is the Beletoros Naval Academy, which sits near the old city centre.

Aggrepos Anchorage

One of the largest civilian anchorages not only in the Ionian League but in the entire Eastward Rim, the Aggrepos Anchorage is a prime jewel in the economic crown of the Ionian League. Suspended in Foslara’s upper orbit and tethered by the Ibean orbital tether network, the Aggrepos Anchorage serves as a primary port of call for near every starship passing through the Ionian Trade Spine,

Nysan Necklace

The Nysan Necklace is a series or orbital defence stations that ring Foslara across its equator. The Nysan Necklace was one of the largest post-war construction projects of the Ionian League following the Great Ionian War, and only finished completion in 3386.
