The KN Fh-98 Garif Dual-Phase Electromagnetic Coil-Rifle (DP-ECRGaennaiAvastha masduuj Li’faiifusiil kahramaghnatis //, Am.Lk) is a gas/electromagnetic linear motor-operated, self-loading coilgun designed by Garif Kurreshi khyyth Sydenna and developed by Kuureshi Manufacturing (Kuureshi Nirmaatis /kuːɽˈeʃi niɽ.mɑː.tis/) of Tribe Kuuresh. The Fh-98 entered Gaennid military service in 3341 in response to the wide range of combat theaters that Imperial forces faced during the Strife of the Lost and fully replaced the Irridesh Fh-95 Service Gauss Rifle as the Combined Armed Forces standard service rifle in 3345.

The Fh-98 fires caseless Lta.77 11.62x52mm sabot SMART rounds and features an on-suite targeting computer with EMP resistant safeguards, wireless hub for attachments, and neural-metric lock; integrated coolant system fitted into the stock; ergonomic pistol grip; Lanuar MilTech dorsal and ventral Nanolock© add-on rails for mounted optics and other ancillary devices; as well as a semi-automatic, burst-fire, and fully automatic fire selector.

After the Fh-98’s apparent success, the Bureau of Military Acquisitions approved Kuureshi Manufacturing to sell the weapon overseas to a number of Gaennid allies including the Alltaari Confederacy, Covenant of Edom, the Star Kingdom of Persica, and the Ionian League.

Design

The Fh-98 is operated through a two-stage munitions discharge system that relies on chemical propellant to first accelerate the round into the electromagnetic coiled barrel and alligator magnetic accelerator assembly. While hardly revolutionary, the dual-stage design allowed the Fh-98 functionality even after exposure to heavy electromagnetic radiation that the weapon could experience in the field, most notably from directional EMP smart-ordnance. It also placed less strain on the weapon’s battery possessing a far smaller consumption cycle than its predecessors, giving the Fh-98 a much longer operational capacity.

Despite its size and its intended use for powered infantrymen, the Garif is light-weight and resilient. Its outer casings are made of ultra-light kassem metal-alloy high-precision stampings whereas its internal parts are largely made of high-impact, temperature-resistant plastics; kassem alloy is used for pieces that cannot be replaced by advanced, aforementioned plastics. The Fh-98’s bullpup design allows arounds to travel down the weapon’s barrel at length before entering the final-stage magnetic accelerator assembly that exits the rifle’s body. Its overall shape represents organic Gaennid aesthetics, and though there are more industrial designs that buyers may request, the higher price tag for custom shaping usually sees mass-orders using its original organic design.

The Fh-98 fires using an electronic pulse action controlled directly from the trigger and powered by a battery in the upper casing above the barrel and magnetic accelerator assembly. The trigger mechanism opens a current from the battery into the breech to ignite a round’s propellant via thermoelectric conduction, ensuring that the weapon will continue to fire in the face of EMP tampering. The internal mechanism (including the  and magnetic accelerator) is mounted on free-floating rails where the rotating breech, detonator chamber, and barrel are fitted with a carbon fiber jacket, opening into the magnetic accelerator assembly mounted on dorsal and ventral carbon fiber rails. The assembly is recoil dampened via a waited stock and the magnetic accelerator’s open alligator-mouth design. While the weapon is capable of interfacing with an operator’s wetware connection wirelessly to choose between selective, three-round burst, or fully automatic firing modes, there is a thumb selector in case of electronic disabling. A block slide above the receiver allows operators to clear the breech during a stoppage, or to check rounds prior to stowage or relinquishing control. The Fh-98’s standard 30-round magazine feeds ammunition into the weapons rotating breech via a spring.

The Lta.77 11.62x52mm FGCSS (Fin-Guided Caseless Sabot SMART) round, the Unified Gaennid Army’s standard power armor rifle ammunition, is embedded in a 350 grain (22.7g) caseless rectangular propellant block of Tetryl 235 produced by Lanuar Military Technologies (Lanuari takniia askerri /ˌlʊˈnɑɽ.i tɑk.niː.ʌ ˌɑsˈkɛɽ.ɽi/; Lta). Once fired, Lta.77 exits the Garif with a muzzle energy of 6kJ, or 611.82kg(m), that is capable of limited corrective maneuvering to increase target-contact probability. When coupled with the ensuite range-finder and targeting software, the KN 11.62x52mm is capable of restricted target seeking behavior. An important feature associated with the KN 11.62x52mm’s is its “Suicide Order”, which will send the round to dive into the ground after a certain range beyond the suspected target distance as not to hit any noncombatants or friendlies.

For adaptability, nanite add-on rails (Nanolock© railing, Lanuar Military Technologies) that provide the stability of an all-in-one, solid structure while allowing for fast interchangeability between various attachments. The most popular addition is the KTS Multi-Spectrum Optics Wireless HUD-Feeder developed by inter-clan corporation Kuuresh-Tandal-Ser’iish Multinational (Kuuresh-Tandal-Ser’iish mud’jinsiaat /kuːɽˈeʃ•tɑn.dɑl•seɽʔ’iːʃ mʊdʔʒin.siˈɑːt/; KTS), followed by various forward grips for better handling.
