The Intersystem Alliance Navy is the naval arm of the armed forces of the Intersystem Alliance and is one of the largest, most capable naval forces in the galaxy. With 1,682,428,115 personnel as of January 2417, the Alliance Navy is the second-largest branch of the Alliance Armed forces by the number of personnel. Operating five fleets across Alliance space, and one expeditionary force stationed in the Threshold. The Alliance Navy serves as a stabilizing force in the region against the threat of conflict with the increasingly aggressive People's Coalition. In addition, the Alliance continues to provide support to nations to its galactic northeast threatened by the imperialistic goals of the ruling monarchy of the Empyrean See. With growing threats and an increasingly tense cold war with both the Coalition and the Empyreans, the Alliance Navy has recently scrambled to rebuild itself following the economic downturn and appeasement policies of their government.

History
TWELVE FRIGATES
The Intersystem Alliance Navy was founded on October 18, 2261, out of select forces of the United Nations Space Authority and the Mars Federation Navy. At the head of this new force was Mars Federation Navy Rear Admiral David Irons.
With the establishment of peace between the major military powers in the Sol System, the Alliance Navy quickly found itself without funding or a mission. The majority of capital ships built for the Earth and Mars navies were mothballed or dismantled, and the fleet took on a policing and anti-piracy role that favored lighter starships and attack craft. In the coming decades, the fleet would continue to downsize absent of threats both internal and external to Sol. By the 2300s, the Alliance Navy was operating and escorting convoys of cargo ships traveling on months-long journeys between Alpha Centauri, Delta Pavonis, and other member nations.
The first major conflict for the Alliance Navy came during the Protest Wars of the 2320s. As Alliance colonies began to grow, a sense of disenfranchisement and biased representation in the Alliance government began to take root in the colony worlds under Alliance influence. The "Protest Wars" were a mainly ground-based conflict, but on November 10th, 2328, the Alliance destroyer Francis Hayes was captured by Pavonian rebels. As the flagship of the first expeditionary squadron, the ship represented nearly one-fourth of the firepower in the star system. Under the direction of Commodore Rei Ushuni, the frigates Europa and Castillo engaged the larger warship and managed to disable it, allowing Alliance Marines to retake the ship.
Over the next three centuries, the Alliance Navy saw a steady increase in size as the threats to the Alliance - mostly in the form of sporadic organized crime and even pirate nations. Famous captains such as Lui Jin, Michelle Lawson, and Koji Hitomi were idolized among both the military and the public for their high profile victories over infamous pirate ships. Known as the "Age of the Lone Ships", Alliance starships served for years on their own amidst the void executing orders to hunt pirates, guard merchant ships, and keep the stars safe.
The end of the 26th century and into the 27th century saw one of the most extensive changes to the nature of space travel since the creation of the MAG drive itself. With the discovery of Counter-mass generators - or CMGs - starships were able to remain at FTL speeds for longer and at higher velocities, accelerating much faster. Ships could now travel previously unfathomable distances in significantly less time. The end of the Astrum Diaspora period saw the re-discovery of hundreds of far-flung human colonies as the Alliance ships, spearheaded by a new generation of warships serving the Alliance fleet. Once again, mankind began exploring the stars.
This period of rediscovery was met with mixed results. On the first expedition to Ishara, only the heads of the emissaries returned, including the captain of the frigate Trailblazer, and the Alliance decided to skirt their territory for the time being. The first encounter with the Empyrean See resulted in a prolonged battle. At the time, the Alliance forces were limited in their ability to maneuver, and relied upon vertical warships, as the Alliance had not yet invented artificial gravity. This greatly hampered damage control efforts. The newly encountered Empyrean See had long mastered control of gravity, and so their warships were laid out in the fashion of waterborne vessels, improving crew mobility and equipment layout. The Alliance was beaten back by the Empyrean See, whom they did not establish even tense relations with for several more years when the Empyreans sent emissaries of their own. In this, the frigate Daring was destroyed and Adventurer was forced to retreat.
The Twelve not only had to worry about the humans they were attempting to reunite but the forces of nature in space as well. While traveling through barely colonized space that would eventually become Isharan, the frigate Vision was lost to unknown causes and has never been found since. A similar fate befell the Valiant as it traveled through Coalition space only one year later.
Structure
1ST FLEET
The Alliance First Fleet is sometimes called the "Sol Fleet," though this is inaccurate. While the First Fleet is tasked with protecting and patrolling Sol and the Citadel, it is the largest of the fleets in the number of ships and regularly deploys them on missions outside of Alliance space. It has a long and illustrious history, as many of its ships are named after the original Twelve Frigates, other early expeditionary vessels, or old Earth vessels.

Objectives
The Alliance Navy was founded under the 2nd Amendment to the Alliance Charter. Under this amendment, the Alliance charter called for the "...formation of a space navy force for the combined defense of all member worlds." In addition, the Alliance Navy was tasked with the following responsibilities:
To establish and maintain a space force capable of defending Alliance space.
To develop starships, spacecraft, equipment, and techniques of naval combat and subordinate services.
To police space lanes, star systems, and major stations.
To maintain freedom of the stars for peaceful navigation both within and beyond the Alliance borders.
