Carthagus is the largest of Ossyria's satellites, and the capital of the Ossan Confederacy. It's size, and its terraformed environment, have made it one of the most populous of Ossyria's luna colonies, enabling it to keep its position at the centre of Ossyria's crown.

Initial colonization of Carthagus and the Ossyrian moons is widely debated by Ionian historians. Earliest known evidence dates colony efforts to the late 2500's, found buried in sites around the planetary capital of Muziris, including the Eridius Site. Carthagus eventually grew to become the dominant power in Ossyria's geo-political sphere, and at some point in the 2600's gained dominion over the rest of Ossyria's colonies, establishing the Kingdom of Ossan. Though starship travel was a rare occurrence within the Ionian Caldera during the early to mid Polemic Period, Carthagus was a nexus of early starship traffic. It was from Carthagus that the earliest Ionian explorers and chartered captains charted the shipping lanes of the Caldera, and explored the dust banks of the Ihalan Spiral and the Aegelian Wall

Following the Ossan Revolt of 3014, the age old Ossan Monarchy was deposed, and in its place rose the Ossan Confederacy. Carthagus naturally changed hands, from tyrants to a democratic conclave of appointed representatives. Under the confederacy, and thusly the Ionian League, Carthagus continued to prosper; a haven for mercantile traffic, naval infrastructure and manufacturing, it has gone on to bolster the Ionian League's Unified Ionian Navy in the post Great Ionian War era; its sole satellite and maritime nexus of Pelagos going on to serve as its headquarters.
